Composite Transport Model and Water and Solute Transport across Plant Roots: An Update

The present review examines recent experimental findings in root transport phenomena in terms of the composite transport model (CTM). It has been a well-accepted conceptual model to explain the complex water and solute flows across the root that has been related to the composite anatomical structure. There are three parallel pathways involved in the transport of water and solutes in roots - apo...

Xylem

What is xylem required for? The xylem has evolved as a tissue to transport water and minerals from the roots to the tips of leaves using tubes of dead tracheary elements arranged end-toend. In addition, the xylem is required for supporting the plant body vertically on land. Thick secondary cell walls on xylem cells give the cells physical strength to help support the plant body and resist water...

Enhanced production of valerenic acids and valepotriates by in vitro cultures of Valeriana officinalis L.

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) is an important medicinal plant that is widely exploited for its roots and rhizomes which contain valepotriates and valerenic acids (with putative pharmacological activities). Thus root proliferation of valerian is very important. The aim of this study was to establish a practical tissue culture method for rapid and large-scale induction of V. officinalis L. ...

In vitro production of secondary metabolite using Atropa komarovii Bline&Shal (Solanaceae) hairy root culture via Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC15834

Background & Aim:A new sustainable tissue-based system is presented by plant hairy roots, preserving all of the several specialized types of cell with critical roles in allowing bioactive secondary molecules to be synthesized more consistently as usual. The system is also essential for studying the production of alkaloid in culture. Experimental: The ...
